Tips for great skin before, during and after your New Year’s Eve party

The holiday season can take a toll on your complexion, but why? According to Dr. Coyle S. Connolly, board certified dermatologist and president of Connolly Dermatology, “holidays equate to more drinking (alcohol) for many. Dry heat and low humidity (think forced hot air) is part of the equation too. Both conditions lead to increased dry, flaky facial skin."
The answer is not drinking more water to replenish dry, lusterless skin, rather more moisturizer, explains Dr. Connolly. CereVe moisturizer is effective and fragrance-free. Dry, unsightly hands respond well to Lipikar (La Roche-Posay). Sallow skin should be revived in the New Year by a series of beta hydroxy peels, says Dr. Connolly. “In addition, post-holidays are a great time to consider more "invasive" cosmetic procedures as there is more social downtime to recover.”
Here are 4 ways to keep your skin looking great, before, during and after your holiday parties from Dr. Mary Lupo, board certified Dermatologist in New Orleans, LA.
1. Drink a glass of water for every alcohol beverage. It prevents dehydration and reduces the symptoms of a hangover.
2. Use a silicone based primer to have makeup last longer.
3. For a quick facial, apply your favorite moisturizer [or the ones recommended above by Dr. Connolly] and then a very warm wet cloth over your face until it cools. It will temporarily pump you up. Then do step #2 before makeup.
4. Cooled, brewed chamomile tea bags best for puffy eye relief.
Here are some products that may help get you through your New Year’s Eve festivities and into the New Year with amazing skin!
CereVe moisturizing Lotion and/or La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume to keep your skin hydrated before, during and after your holiday party.
Hydrolyze Instant Under Eye Illuminator ($49.95, Hydroxatone.com) has optical light diffusers that brighten and immediately reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. Then there are chamomile tea bags, again, for puffy eye relief.
Inside your evening clutch: Packets of Blowfish for Hangovers, one of the best hangover cures I know ($11.99 at CVS). In the AM add two tablets to water, drink it down, and in about 30 minutes, say “so long hangover!” Also, tuck a few packets of UrgentRx Fast Powders (Try the Headache Relief To-Go and Upset Stomach To-Go Fast Powders - $13.99 for 12 packs) in your clutch or have them handy for use in the AM for pain relief and discomfort.
