Make your routine more eco-friendly in honor of Earth Day
By Carla Snuggs
Earth Day is April 22, and this year we want to honor the Earth by giving our beauty routines an eco-friendly makeover. But how? Coming to the rescue is Sharon McRill, Owner of The Betty Brigade, a personal assistance and concierge company based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Sharon McRill shares the following tips to make your beauty routine a bit more eco-friendly.
Tip 1: Use Chemical Free and Eco-Friendly Cosmetics
You can find eco-friendly and chemical free cosmetics to help lessen the overall impact on not only your skin, AND help the environment. Labels such as Alima, Juice Beauty, Lauren Brooke, and Burt's Bees all have certified organic and eco-friendly cosmetic lines to help you look amazing but not harm mother nature.
Tip 2: Try Home Remedies and Treatments
Try using honey and coffee grounds as a natural facial scrub instead of spending money on harmful chemical products. This helps even your skin tone and even prevent breakouts. You can also try olive oil with sugar for a great sugar scrub. These ingredients are all natural which means they don't have any added chemicals and don't take much to manufacture, which is good for the environment.
Tip 3. Reuse and Recycle
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, more than 2 billion disposable razors wind up in landfills every year. To minimize the impact on the environment, choose a razor that allows you to change the blades (instead of regularly tossing a plastic, non-biodegradable razor into the trash) or better yet, invest in an electric razor. In addition, you can switch to recycled plastic bags for makeup storage and recycled toilet paper for makeup removal.
Here are some of Posh Beauty Blog's favorite eco-friendly beauty brands β brands that are chemical free and/or recycle and reduce waste:
Amala Beauty: On Earth Day, April 22, Amala will gift its customers a complimentary Aroma Apothecary Renew Rose Concentrate with every purchase plus free shipping with the promo code EARTHDAY (a $24 value).
